Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineering Professional to support experimental design and flight test activities for new aircraft development and defense programs. This role requires full autonomy and technical leadership in the design, development, and release of complex mechanical and structural solutions for experimental and flight test environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical installations for complex experimental systems, including flight test aircraft, structural and systems test rigs, and wind tunnel models, in support of new aircraft development and defense initiatives.
- Design and develop structural and aircraft systems modifications required to convert production aircraft into flight test vehicles, including temporary and experimental outfitting.
- Lead mechanical design activities from early‑phase concepts through detailed design and release, producing complete 3D/2D engineering drawings and documentation in compliance with aerospace standards.
- Perform design work using CATIA V5 and Siemens NX, including configuration management, GD&T, tolerancing, and drawing release.
- Interpret and translate aerospace technical, regulatory, and program requirements into robust, compliant, and cost‑optimized design solutions.
- Conduct preliminary structural stress analyses on designed installations and experimental equipment.
- Support manufacturing, assembly, instrumentation, and installation by working closely with experimental and manufacturing shops throughout project execution.
- Plan and manage design activities in alignment with project schedules, budgets, risks, and priorities in a dynamic and complex environment.
- Act as a technical leader within multidisciplinary teams, influencing stakeholders, mentoring team members, and presenting technical solutions confidently to management.
- Support flight test activities, including experimental flight test equipment design, flight test parts organization, and instrumentation integration, with exposure to NIEOs and temporary aircraft modifications.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant mechanical design experience in the aerospace sector.
- Advanced, hands‑on expertise with CATIA V5 (Siemens NX experience strongly preferred).
- Strong background in aircraft structures and systems design, including:
- Structural and aircraft system modifications
- Machined parts, welded assemblies, sheet metal, and instrumentation
- Experimental and flight test outfitting on aircraft platforms
- Proven experience with design release processes, configuration control, and compliance with aerospace standards and regulations.
- Solid understanding of materials, standard aerospace components, and structural principles, with the ability to perform preliminary stress analyses.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex engineering projects, including planning, scheduling, budget tracking, and risk management.
- Recognized technical leadership with strong judgment, accountability, and the ability to influence cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Fully autonomous, adaptable, and effective in fast‑paced, high‑complexity environments.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.
