Job Summary

The Director of Engineering – is responsible for leading the engineering strategy, execution, and delivery of multidisciplinary projects in the upstream and midstream oil & gas sectors. This role provides technical leadership, ensures operational excellence, and supports business development efforts to drive growth and profitability. The Director will oversee project engineering teams, interface with clients, and ensure that all engineering work meets regulatory standards, quality benchmarks, and client expectations.

 

Job Description

  • Leadership & Strategy
    • Define and implement engineering strategies for upstream and midstream projects in alignment with corporate objectives.
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
    • Participate in strategic planning, resource allocation, and long-term development capability.
  • Project Execution
    • Oversee engineering execution across multiple projects, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget adherence.
    • Provide technical oversight and guidance for oilfield facilities, pipelines, gathering systems, compression, and associated infrastructure.
    • Review and approve engineering deliverables to ensure quality and compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Serve as a primary technical liaison with clients, supporting business development and proposal efforts.
    • Work closely with project management, construction, and procurement teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Operations & Continuous Improvement
    • Develop and implement the best engineering practices, processes, and tools to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
    • Track engineering performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Ensure compliance with HSE standards and engineering codes (e.g., ASME, API, DOT, etc.).

 

Skills Required

  • 15+ years of experience in the oil & gas industry, with a significant focus on upstream and midstream projects.
  • 5+ years in engineering leadership or management roles.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. regulatory requirements, pipeline codes, and oil & gas facility design standards.
  • Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and large-scale capital projects.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.
  • Preferred Skills & Experience
    • Experience with EPCM project delivery models.
    • Familiarity with digital engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, CAESAR II, Aspen HYSYS, etc.).
    • Knowledge of project economics and lifecycle cost analysis.

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Petroleum, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) strongly preferred.

 

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel to project sites and client offices as needed.
