Our client, one of the largest structural steel fabricators and erectors across North America is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to bring their knowledge and experience in the field of commercial and preventative maintenance for heavy fabrication equipment.

 

Job Summary

Working for a world-class leader in building structures and bridges, a Fitter brings his/her expertise and knowledge in steel and/or bridge fabrication to build some of the most complex and high-profile projects in the commercial building, bridge, and industrial sectors. Critical to the production process this position assembles and fits to drawing dimensions of various structural, plate, and mechanical materials

 

Job Description

  • Receives instructions, prints, sketches, and work orders
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and plans the fitting operation
  • Directs and assists in handling and spreading of material, assembling material into required relationships according to detail drawings; handling and placing detail material in assembly, placing bolts, drift pins, and other fastening devices in proper locations
  • Lays out work lines or fits up jigs for positioning material when required; checks, squares, and scribes all detail connections
  • Responsible for work conforming to drawings and notes thereon. 
  • Cleans up material by grinding or chipping
  • Burns and tack welds for assembly purposes.  Burns, copes, and bevels and straightens material. Does minor layout
  • Spot paints for identification marks
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Perform other routine duties per management direction
  • Must adhere to and follow all safety rules and PPE requirements
  • The production fitter utilizes a high degree of proficiency while utilizing full skills of the trade including knowledge of blueprints and common heat reactions of structural metals
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily

Skills Required

  • 12 months experience
  • Looking for more of a fabricator, read bluprints and tack weld

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required:

  • Regularly required to stand and/or sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach outward and above shoulders with hands and arms; and talk or hear. 
  • Frequently is required to walk and stoop, bend, kneel, squat, crouch, or crawl. 
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance. 
  • Must occasionally lift, carry and/or move up to 50 lbs. 
  • Occasionally push and/or pull a maximum force of 200 ft-lb. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Mental and visual application required to interpret drawings, layout, and plan work.  
  • Good judgment in determining the best method and procedure to be followed.
  • Work on jobs while always applying safety rules. SAFETY is always the priority one.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)  ((Hard Hat, Steel toed boots, Safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, long pants, long-sleeved shirt, respirator etc.. per requirements for position)

    • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
    • Software & Technology
      • Position will require the frequent use of Kronos for timekeeping

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • High school diploma/general equivalency diploma (GED)

 

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass fitter quiz
  • Work Hours: Day shift, 7:00 am - 3:30pm (overtime is available - candidate must advise upfront if they are open to working OT)

Pay Rate/Salary

  • Starting at $21.60 - $28.00/hr depending on experience. Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skill set and/or location
