SUMMARY:  The purpose of this position is to coordinate with and assist Area Managers and Quality Managers across all sites in the areas of Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory.  This individual will take a lead role in the implementation, maintenance and training of Mennel’s policies/programs across the organization.  This position will sustain the food safety policy, mission, purpose and quality statements of the Mennel Milling Company.


PRIMARY WORK SHIFT: Monday through Friday 8AM – 5PM.  Will vary, depending on workload.



Include the following - Other duties may be assigned:


  • Responsible for ongoing compliance to federal, state and local food safety regulations (FSMA, BRC, FDA) at all food production facilities.
  • Work cross-functionally within the company (operations, R&D, sales, grain group, etc.) to ensure food safety, quality and regulatory programs and policy changes are communicated and successfully executed.
  • Ensure policies and procedures (SOPs, standards, specifications, etc.) are relevant, accessible, and current.
  • Serve as the initial contact for quality related observations/incidents (that cannot be managed by the site Quality Manager) at the food production facilities
  • Be an active participant in the Quality Resolution Team, taking appropriate leadership roles on assigned projects.
  • This person will leverage continuous improvement tools (RCA, CAPAs, etc.) and industry best practices to improve food safety and quality processes.
  • Ensure all facilities and finished products meet and/or exceed the company, customer and government standards of food safety, quality, and sanitation.
  • Responsible for coordinating (agenda, location, speakers) the Quality Managers meeting held throughout the year.
  • Active contributor in projects for innovation/product development, quality, validations, process improvement, and customer complaint reduction.
  • As needs permits, this position may require additional responsibilities as defined by the Director of Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline is required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in cereal chemistry, analytical chemistry, food science, and statistics or statistical process control (SPC).
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and SPC software.
  • Must have a strong understanding of wet chemistry and rheological testing aptitude.
  • Good communication skills both internally and externally.



Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, procedures, and plans. Ability to write reports, complete checklists and other basic documentation and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers, supervisors, and managers. Must be able to lead training sessions on a variety of topics.



Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must have ability to read and comprehend customer specification sheets and calculate production capacity and rates.



Must use solid judgment when making decisions. Must have ability to quickly recognize and improve areas of opportunity.

The noise level in the work environment usually requires the use of hearing protection.
