SUMMARY:  The primary purpose of this position is to meet and exceed expectations of our internal and external customers; to conduct qualitative/quantitative tests on raw materials, in process, and finished products to ensure compliance with internal/external specifications and all food safety programs; to provide prompt and effective communication, service, and timely delivery of reliable information and accurate laboratory data to our internal and external customers. This position will sustain the food safety policy, mission, purpose and quality statements of the Mennel Milling Company.



Monday through Friday 3PM - 11PM (some weekends included)



Include the following - Other duties may be assigned:


  • Responsible for the testing, and reporting of all analyses for both our internal and external customers
  • Perform accurate analysis of routine and non-routine samples coming into the QA department
  • Promptly communicate important quality, safety, and security concerns to co-workers, and QA Manager
  • Calibrate and/or trouble-shoot each analysis, maintaining calibration logs for each of the testing procedures
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area in addition to assigned sanitation duties
  • Fill in for the QA Manager in his/her absence to perform product specification changes and assignments
  • Serve as the primary coordinator of R&D project testing requests and helps conduct research projects as required



This position assists with the direct supervision of summer help and new staff training when necessary.

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required. Two or four-year college degree in cereal science, food science, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, analytical instrument, microbiology or related field preferred
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office
  • Must have exceptional planning, organizational, problem solving and customer service skills
  • Ability to display open communication and interpersonal skills are required in relationships with both internal and external customers within the organization.
  • Must have the ability to quickly learn how materials flow through a particular process and/or a sequence of operations.



Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, procedures, and plans. Ability to write reports, complete checklists and other basic documentation and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers, supervisors, and managers.



Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.



Must use solid judgment when making decisions. Must have ability to quickly recognize and plan for changing work duties and events.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to conditions that are typical to a fast- paced manufacturing environment, including: moving equipment and machinery, dusty, hot/humid, and cold conditions; employee must be willing to work in all weather conditions, at heights, in precarious places; in the presence of airborne particles, and with the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment usually requires the use of hearing protection.
