Job Summary

We are seeking a Packaging Technician to join our team.

 

Job Description

  • Participate in the seed count, bagging, and treatment operations of the plant.
  • Operate and manage automated seed sampling equipment to pull accurate samples from each lot as directed.
  • Assist with seed counts for packaging and ensure QA samples are collected as needed.
  • Maintain accurate data entry for plant monitoring, specifically in the treating and packaging areas.
  • Monitor and maintain the appearance of packaged bags, including the printing on bags, placards, barcodes, and wrapping.
  • Ensure the treatment process is accurate and consistent.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on bag placers, baggers, treaters, and palletizers as needed during the season and shutdown periods.
  • Assist in inventory counts of raw goods, carryover stock, and packaging materials.
  • During carryover season, support the sorting and inventory of carryover products and assist with blending by seed count.
  • Track and maintain seed/lbs., bag weights, bag inventory, and overall packaging quality to ensure accuracy.
  • Participate in the cleaning of treating and bagging areas during variety changes and other plant activities.
  • Follow all established housekeeping protocols to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Follow all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Perform other duties as directed by management to support plant operations and ensure seamless processing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues with bagging machines, bag placers, and other machinery.
  • Identify discrepancies in seed counts, packaging, and treatment application, and take corrective actions or notify management for resolution.
  • Ensure packaging prints (e.g., bag tops, placards) are clear, distinct, and compliant with labeling standards.
  • Calibrate and maintain treating equipment to ensure accurate seed treatment and avoid disruptions in the process.

 

Skills Required

  • Strong hands-on ability to troubleshoot and repair plant equipment (baggers, placers, treaters, etc.) as needed.
  • Clear communication and the ability to work effectively with others to achieve common goals.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with team members, supervisors, and management to ensure smooth operations.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50lb bags and performing physically demanding tasks as needed.
  • Ability to monitor and ensure the accuracy of seed counts, packaging, and treatment processes.
  • Ability to identify issues and make quick, effective decisions to resolve them during operations.
  • Experience in seed processing, manufacturing, or warehouse operations is a plus.
  • Previous experience with automated seed treatment and bagging equipment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and procedures.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and work in various environmental conditions (e.g., warehouse, plant).
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. independently

 

Education/Certification/Training

  • Highschool diploma or GED

 

 Pay Rate

  • $20 per hour
