Job Summary

The Utility Operator is responsible for operating and adjusting grinding mill equipment to ensure products meet established quality and API specifications. This role supports efficient mineral processing by feeding crude ore, monitoring mill performance, conducting sampling, overseeing equipment conditions, and ensuring the proper transfer of finished product to holding tanks. The Utility Operator plays a key role in maintaining safe, reliable, and cost-effective production.

 

Job Description

  • Adjust mill equipment to produce material that meets required quality standards.
  • Operate grinding mills within optimal safety, quality, and performance parameters.
  • Feed crude ore to the mills and ensure appropriate grade and availability in feed bins.
  • Perform periodic sampling of ground product to support quality verification.
  • Transfer finished product to designated holding tanks.
  • Conduct operator-level maintenance, including pre-operation inspections and routine monitoring.
  • Maintain proper mill and compressor oil levels to ensure reliable equipment operation.
  • Monitor plant equipment for abnormalities and report or correct issues as needed.
  • Maintain optimum equipment settings to achieve consistent, cost-effective production.
  • Coordinate with the Lab Technician to stay updated on process test results and adjust operations accordingly.
  • Ensure all production activities support the company’s quality program and API specifications.
  • Maintain accurate communication with coworkers and supervisors regarding equipment status, product quality, and operational needs.
  • Follow all safety procedures and operational guidelines for mill and plant environments.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Participate in safety initiatives and report hazards or deviations promptly.

 

Skills Required

  • Experience in mill, mining, or industrial plant operations preferred.
  • Ability to operate and adjust grinding mills and related equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude for equipment monitoring and operator maintenance.
  • Understanding of basic quality control practices and sampling procedures.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with laboratory and production teams.
  • Ability to work in a plant or mill environment with industrial equipment, noise, and dust.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, and lift materials as needed.

 

Education

  • Highschool diploma or GED

 

Pay Rate

  • $20 per hour and higher depending on experience
