Job Summary 

The Power Systems Engineer supports the integration and performance evaluation of inverter-based resources (IBRs), including renewable and battery technologies, within the power grid. This role focuses on enhancing modeling capabilities and ensuring compliance with voltage ride-through (VRT) and frequency ride-through (FRT) performance requirements.

 

Job Description 

  • Perform reliability power system studies, including steady-state and dynamic stability analyses, to assess the impact of inverter-based resource voltage ride-through (VRT) and frequency ride-through (FRT) performance on the electric grid.
  • Review technical data submissions related to VRT and FRT performance to ensure compliance with grid reliability requirements.
  • Support the development and implementation of processes and procedures related to the maximization of VRT and FRT performance for inverter-based resources.
  • Provide technical support to cross-functional teams responsible for developing processes to receive, evaluate, and track IBR performance submissions.
  • Collaborate with market participants to clarify requirements, facilitate technical submissions, and coordinate implementation of necessary modifications or exemptions.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend disposition of requests for extensions or exemptions from VRT and FRT requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on IBR ride-through capabilities and related performance standards.
  • Participate in stakeholder discussions and technical working groups as needed.
  • Contribute to future revisions and improvements to reliability standards, processes, and procedures related to inverter-based resources.

 

Skills Required 

  • Experience performing power system reliability studies.
  • Background working with renewable generation resources such as wind, solar, or battery storage.
  • Experience analyzing voltage levels, relay coordination, or protection settings.
  • Familiarity with power system modeling or simulation tools such as Python, PowerWorld, PSS®E, or PSCAD.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.

 

 

Education

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

 

Pay Rate

 

  • $33 - $39 per hour (Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors)
