Job Summary
A Senior I&E Engineer is a highly experienced technical leader responsible for overseeing critical power, control, and automation engineering design packages for complex midstream and facilities oil & gas projects. This role bridges the gap between electrical infrastructure and process instrumentation to ensure technical excellence and seamless system integration. The IEE IV drives innovation in design solutions balancing power distribution with precision control logic while providing mentorship and direction to the broader engineering team.
Job Description
- Serve as the lead I&E engineer for large-scale or technically challenging project areas, owning the entire integrated electrical, instrumentation, and control design packages.
- Performance and guidance of advanced technical studies, including electrical transient stability, harmonic analysis, and power quality assessments, as well as advanced control system design, network architecture, and cybersecurity for industrial controls.
- Development and optimization of integrated systems, balancing electrical power requirements and complex control strategies to ensure operational efficiency, safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
- Preparation of specifications, data sheets, drawings, calculations, control narratives, and logic diagrams.
- Performing comprehensive technical review and approval of specifications, data sheets, drawings, calculations, control narratives, and logic diagrams prepared by an I&E designer.
- Interface directly with clients, regulatory bodies, and senior management on all aspects of electrical, instrumentation, and control engineering.
- Acting as a subject matter expert and provision of authoritative guidance on both electrical and I&C engineering best practices, standards, and industry regulations.
- Mentoring and development of I&E Engineers and Designers fostering technical growth, cross-disciplinary knowledge transfer, and professional excellence.
- Contribution to the development of departmental standards, including electrical and instrumentation procedures, design guidelines, and technical templates.
- Some travel may be required to support project sites, client meetings, or facility commissioning.
Skills Required
- 8-10 years of related experience required
- In-depth knowledge of various electrical equipment types, power generation, distribution, and protection schemes, combined with a strong track record in designing and managing instrumentation and control (I&C) aspects of large-scale industrial or oil & gas facilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Expert proficiency with multiple electrical engineering design and analysis software packages, as well as multiple control system platforms (DCS, PLC, SCADA) and related design/simulation software.
- Deep understanding and practical application of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, API RP 14F/14C, IEC standards for hazardous areas, ISA-84/IEC 61511 for SIS, and NFPA 72).
- In-depth knowledge of safety instrumented systems (SIS) lifecycle, fire & gas systems, and industrial communication protocols.
- Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and optimize integrated electrical and instrumentation engineering solutions.
- Team player and able to communicate and relate well with others.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional lifting of office supplies or equipment up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to move around the office for daily tasks and meetings, and job site visits, when required.
Education/Training/Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (ABET) Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) Required
Pay Rate/Salary
- Salary Range: $115-125k/year (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location.)
