Job Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for managing the movement of incoming and outgoing products throughout the facility to ensure efficient operations and timely order fulfillment. This role supports production and distribution by accurately picking, packing, loading, and auditing orders while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. Working as part of a small team under a Team Lead, the Material Handler plays a key role in helping the operation meet customer demands and reduce order backlogs.

 

Job Description

  • Follow all company policies and guidelines related to workplace safety, quality, and housekeeping.
  • Read and interpret production schedules, customer orders, work orders, and shipping documents to determine material handling needs.
  • Pick, pack, and audit customer orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Move materials from receiving or production areas to storage or designated locations.
  • Sort and store items on racks, shelves, or bins based on size, type, or product code.
  • Assemble and stage customer orders on pallets for shipment.
  • Load and unload inbound and outbound shipments, including palletized and non-palletized goods.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as stand-up and sit-down forklifts and pallet jacks (certification provided on-site).
  • Open containers such as crates and bales and verify contents.
  • Weigh, count, and record materials to ensure accuracy and compliance with company standards.
  • Enter inventory and transaction data into warehouse management systems.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to meet daily operational goals and customer expectations.
  • Support efforts to clear overdue orders and improve overall fulfillment performance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Skills Required

  • 1–3 years of relevant warehouse or material handling experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work with warehouse systems
  • Ability to read and understand work orders and shipping documentation
  • Ability to stand, sit, see, and hear continuously throughout the shift
  • Frequent walking, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to climb stairs and work on concrete surfaces
  • Comfortable working in varying temperatures (0°F to 120°F) and environments with dust, noise, and outdoor exposure
  • Ability to operate a computer and communicate via phone and written methods
  • Forklift certification will be provided on-site
  • Occasional travel to other locations, meetings, or training sessions may be required

Preferred qualifications: 

  • At least 2 years of experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment
  • Prior experience in a high-volume warehouse or distribution environment

 

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.

 

Pay Rate

  • $18 - $22.50 per hour (Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors)
