Job Summary
Supports The Instrumentation & Electrical Designer is responsible for developing detailed electrical and instrumentation design deliverables for industrial projects, supporting oil & gas, refinery, and chemical facilities. This role involves AutoCAD 2D drafting, SPI and InTools database management, and coordination with project teams, vendors, and site personnel to ensure accurate and compliant design execution. The designer ensures all deliverables meet applicable API, NEC, and NFPA standards while supporting project scope, quality, and safety requirements.
Job Description
- Assists Develop detailed Instrumentation and Electrical design deliverables using AutoCAD 2D, SPI, and InTools.
- Prepare field instrumentation drawings, loop drawings, instrumentation layouts, hook-up drawings, JB drawings, and control room FTA drawings.
- Develop electrical design deliverables including area classification drawings, one-line diagrams, grounding/earthing layouts, and power layout drawings.
- Coordinate with site operations, technicians, project engineers, and document controllers to define and execute project scope.
- Communicate and collaborate with internal engineering teams and global design teams to support design reviews and project requirements.
- Interface with vendors to incorporate vendor data and update relevant electrical and instrumentation drawings.
- Perform quality review and validation of design deliverables prior to submission to the client.
- Ensure compliance with API, NEC, NFPA, and other applicable industry standards and codes.
- Support multi-disciplinary coordination to ensure alignment across engineering teams and project requirements.
- Ensure adherence to site safety, health, and operational protocols.
Skills Required
- Strong experience in AutoCAD 2D drafting for Instrumentation and Electrical design
- Working knowledge of SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation) and InTools
- Knowledge of instrumentation deliverables including loop drawings, layouts, hook-ups, and JB drawings
- Experience in low voltage electrical design (below 480V)
- Experience developing one-line diagrams, grounding layouts, and area classification drawings
- Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, and API standards
- Experience supporting EPC or EPCm projects preferred
- Strong communication, coordination, and technical documentation skills
Education/Training/Certifications
- High School Degree or GED
- Diploma or Certificate in Instrumentation and Electrical Design or equivalent technical education and work experience
