Job Summary

We are seeking a creative and hands-on R&D Technician/Technologist to support the design, assembly, testing, and optimization of prototype systems for oil and gas processing applications. This role requires a strong technical background in mechanical, electrical, and control systems, and a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex equipment involving multiple energy sources.

Job Description

  • Assemble and test prototype and pilot systems, converting conceptual designs into operational test equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to establish project timelines, budgets, and technical specifications.
  • Select, size, and procure necessary equipment and materials.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors and subcontractors during design and build phases.
  • Interpret and develop process, electrical, and instrument diagrams.
  • Develop and document operational and testing procedures.
  • Provide occasional field support for client or internal operations teams.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex mechanical and control systems, including pumps, heaters, valves, and instrumentation.
  • Ensure safe operation of pilot and prototype systems.
  • Manage testing campaigns—planning, execution, and analysis—to improve prototype performance and validate data integrity.
  • Support the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Document test results, maintenance activities, and improvement recommendations.
  • Identify and mitigate safety and operational risks throughout all project phases.
  • Promote and enforce best practices for safety, housekeeping, and equipment management.
  • Advise management on potential performance or safety concerns.

Skills Required

  • Minimum of 5 years troubleshooting equipment with multiple energy sources.
  • Prior experience in a small to medium fabrication facility within an oil and gas plant environment is preferred; other fabrication or industrial backgrounds are welcome.
  • Comfortable in a multi-disciplinary shop environment involving mechanical assembly, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Strong practical understanding of mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering principles.
  • Operation and maintenance of complex mechanical systems or industrial/laboratory process equipment.
  • Understanding of oil, water, and gas production processes.
  • Experience with process sensors (temperature, pressure, level, flow, pH).
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical, and instrument diagrams.
  • Strong mechanical assembly experience.

Education

  • Highschool diploma or GED

Additional Details

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Visio, MS Word, and Excel (preferred).
