Job Summary

Our client is looking for a Staff Engineering Technician to support engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables using tools such as Civil 3D, CAD, and BIM. This role applies engineering principles and established design practices to produce moderately complex design documents, drawings, and calculations while ensuring compliance with project standards and codes. The technician may also provide technical guidance, support field activities, and assist with project coordination, scheduling, and quality control.

Job Description

  • Functions in a project engineering technician capacity.
  • Supports engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables under general direction.
  • Applies foundational engineering principles and established design practices to develop moderately complex design concepts and solutions.
  • Utilizes digital tools and design software such as CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation and drawings.
  • Provides technical guidance and may offer direction to other engineering professionals and technicians.
  • Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and company policies and procedures.
  • Reviews project requirements and determines the correct format and contents of deliverables.
  • Applies quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance of deliverables.
  • Reviews design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance with project codes and standards.
  • Performs design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation.
  • May review deliverables prepared by others for accuracy and quality.
  • May define work assignments and maintain project schedules.
  • May program control systems or participate in plant start-up activities related to area of expertise.
  • Coordinates with other design team members to exchange project information and support design development.
  • May support field activities and coordinate with internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Seeks and shares knowledge of new technologies and processes.
  • Applies judgment when interpreting project inputs and preparing deliverables.

 

Skills Required

  • Typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Advanced Civil 3d experience is required with the use of pipe/pressure networks, proposed grading surfaces and plan/profile development.
  • Must be familiar with plan & profiles, alignments, pipe networks and grading.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards, codes, and document control processes
  • Ability to perform design calculations and material quantity estimates
  • Ability to review and ensure quality of technical deliverables
  • Strong coordination and communication skills
  • Ability to handle complex technical assignments and provide technical guidance

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Associate degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design-related Technology preferred
