Job Summary

The Trainee Laboratory Technician is responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and reliable Product and Service Delivery (PSD) to customers. This role supports oil well cementing operations by performing laboratory testing, quality assurance, and technical support for cement slurries, additives, and fluid designs. The Trainee Laboratory Technician works closely with engineering, product centers, and client support labs to ensure high-quality service delivery while adhering to HSE and quality standards.

 

Job Description

  • Perform quality control testing on cement slurries, additives, and water to ensure compliance with required specifications, including: Viscosity, Stability, Filter press, Thickening time, Compressive strength, Water quality analysis
  • Prepare laboratory reports prior to service delivery at the wellsite.
  • Support advanced additive selection and fluid design as competency develops.
  • Assist Design/Technical Engineers and Product Champions with technical support.
  • Collect chemical additive samples from the warehouse for pilot testing.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is clean, maintained, calibrated, and in proper working condition.
  • Safely use hand and power tools to maintain and repair lab equipment.
  • Dispose of waste regularly and maintain a clean, organized laboratory workspace.
  • Perform risk analysis before each task to identify and mitigate safety or quality risks.
  • Participate in HSE and Quality initiatives and Service Quality Meetings with customers.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure laboratory operations meet required standards.
  • Wear required PPE at all times, including coveralls, safety goggles, gloves, steel-toe boots, hard hat, and respiratory protection as needed.
  • Maintain required safety training and certifications and submit risk identification reports through online reporting tools.
  • Follow all company policies related to safety, health, ethics, IT security, and professionalism.
  • Maintain communication with Client Support Labs, operating locations, product centers, and the InTouch repository.
  • Operate medium-duty machinery such as forklifts and pallet jacks when required.
  • Support other departments during peak workloads or business needs.
  • Prepare technical presentations for internal and external customers.

Skills Required

  • Strong willingness to learn specialized skills in oil & gas cementing, fluid design, and laboratory operations.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to strictly follow procedures.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work an 8-on / 4-off rotating schedule, alternating between day and night shifts.
  • Flexibility for infrequent schedule changes based on business needs.
  • Ability to pass company-mandated pre-employment screening.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel for training or to support other laboratory locations.

 

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

 

Pay Rate

  • $19 per hour and higher depending on experience
