Job Summary

Our client is seeking a Manager of Survey who will ne responsible for overseeing all survey operations related to pipelines, facilities, and civil projects, ensuring accurate, high-quality, and efficient survey services. This role involves managing field and office survey teams, implementing best practices, maintaining compliance with industry standards, and supporting engineering and construction activities. Additionally, the Manager of Survey will play a key role in business development, client relations, and ensuring the profitability of the department.

 

Job Description

  • Survey Operations & Project Execution:
    • Oversee and manage survey operations for pipeline routes and oil & gas facilities projects. civil infrastructure, and construction projects.
    • Ensure the accurate collection of topographic, boundary, and as-built survey data for pipeline and facility projects.
    • Develop and enforce best practices, quality control measures, and safety protocols.
    • Maintain compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
    • Maintain survey trucks and equipment, company owned and rentals.
    • Ensure survey equipment is kept in working order along with proper calibrations.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Supervise and mentor field crews, project surveyors, and survey technicians.
    • Recruit, train, and develop personnel to build a high-performing team.
    • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Project Support & Coordination:
    • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to provide essential survey data.
    • Review and approve survey deliverables, including pipeline alignment sheets, ROW plats, construction staking, and pipeline as-builts.
    • Ensure coordination between survey teams and project managers and/or engineering leads to meet project schedules and client expectations.
  • Business Development & Client Relations:
    • Establish and maintain relationships with clients in oil & gas, civil infrastructure, and industrial sectors.
    • Prepare proposals, budgets, and schedules for survey projects.
    • Provide technical expertise and solutions to clients' survey needs.
  • Financial & Strategic Management:
    • Monitor department budgets, financial performance, and resource allocation.
    • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance profitability.
    • Support company leadership in strategic planning and market expansion for survey services.

 

Skills Required

  • Minimum 5–10 years in land surveying, with extensive experience in pipeline, facility, and civil survey projects.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expertise in pipeline route surveys and construction staking/as-builts, ROW plats, and pipeline facility site development. and civil infrastructure surveying.
    • Proficiency in survey software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Leica, and GIS tools.
    • Strong knowledge of GPS, LiDAR, and remote sensing technologies.
    • Experience in civil projects is a plus.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines efficiently.
    • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) license required in Texas and Louisiana.

 

Additional Requirements

  • Office and field-based work, requiring travel to project sites.
  • Capable of working in various weather conditions and terrains.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking long distances, carrying equipment, and standing for extended periods.
